Walter Myers Space Art (Saturn)

This image suggests how Saturn might look from high above the ring plane and at a right angle to the Sun, a perspective that we could never get from the Earth nor from the Hubble Space Telescope.

Artist says: The Universe is a big place. Our Earth is only one world. All around us there are likely many other worlds, many exotic possibilities. This is a collection of computer-generated images I have created that attempt to suggest what some of these other worlds may look like. Inspired by the work of great space artists like Chesley Bonestell, Ron Miller, Don Dixon, and William K. Hartmann, these images reflect my interest in the possibilities of the physical world, especially landscapes: terrestrial and those beyond the Earth. In creating these images of the Earth and other worlds, I try to adhere as closely as possible to what is known about these environments, while at the same time making something nice to look at. My goal is to, at the very least, recreate an impression of what a human visitor to one of these exotic worlds would experience, if not actually see. For me, the essence of space is the wilderness; the many and varied worlds beyond the Earth are pristine examples of the sublimity and elegance of nature’s laws. The fact that we as humans can draw pleasure from this aesthetic serves to remind us of our intimate connection to all the universe around us.
